BC’s Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT) Program:

10 – 4-hour Classroom Sessions
9 hr (1½ day) Air Brake Course
24 – 4-hour In-Truck Lessons

We cover:

  • Pre-trip inspections
  • Shifting
  • City driving
  • Mountain driving
  • Operating skills
  • Cornering
  • Roundabouts
  • Backing maneuvers
  • Coupling / uncoupling
  • Installing tire chains
  • Cargo Securement

Overview:

  • All training with an 18-speed manual transmission
  • 10 hours maximum with an automatic transmission
  • Pulling a 53’ dry van or 48’ flatdeck
  • Must have a learner’s licence
  • Use of truck/trailer for road test with 2 hour warm-up

  • Refunds are available within 10 days of written notice – refunds will be limited to the balance of unused prepaid training, less a $300 administration fee
  • Students must provide 24 hours notice to postpone/cancel (and rebook) a lesson:  no notice = no refund!
  • There may be occasions where another instructor/assessment officer may ride along with a lesson or partial lesson for observation purposes – no additional fees will apply
  • Lessons may be cancelled by the instructor/school due to inappropriate attire and/or any type of impairment
